Philadelphia 76ers forward Tobias Harris had himself a very important season in the second year of 5-year max contract and he had a lot of expectations to live up to. After a rough first week where he had to adjust to yet another new role and a new–yet, familiar–coach in Doc Rivers, Harris is in a groove.

He has scored 20+ points in three straight games as Rivers has put him in the right spot to succeed on the floor next to Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid and the team is on a 3-game winning streak.

On Monday, it was announced that he was the recipient of the Eastern Conference Player of the Week award for the time period of Dec. 28 through Jan. 3. He averaged 23.5 points and 9.7 rebounds while shooting 57.1% from the floor.

Harris’ strong play is a credit to how hard he has worked in the offseason and, of course, Rivers being able to put him in the right spots to succeed. He will be looking to continue his hot play on Monday when Philadelphia hosts the Charlotte Hornets at 7:00 p.m. EST from the Wells Fargo Center.

The Chicago Bears once again proved that they can’t run with the likes of the Green Bay Packers, a team that looks poised for a Super Bowl run. Chicago was swept by Green Bay once again in a 35-16 loss that nearly cost the Bears a playoff spot. Luckily for Chicago, the Arizona Cardinals lost, which paved the Bears’ way to the postseason.

While the final score of the Chicago-Green Bay game appeared lopsided, there was a time when the Bears trailed by a single possession in the fourth quarter before everything spiraled out of control.

One of the reasons for the Bears’ limited offensive success was rookie receiver Darnell Mooney, who had his best game as a young pro. And that’s saying a lot for the fifth-round rookie, who made an immediate impact this season.

Mooney had career-highs in receptions (11), targets (13) and receiving yards (93) against the Packers. And those numbers likely would’ve been higher had Mooney not suffered an ankle injury early in the fourth quarter.

Chicago struggled to get their top receiver Allen Robinson open throughout the game, which put the onus on Mooney to step up — and he did. Mooney has flashed his playmaking ability throughout the season, and he did so particularly on a 53-yard deep ball from Mitchell Trubisky, which set the Bears up on Green Bay’s 9-yard line.

This season, Mooney had 61 receptions for 631 yards and four touchdowns. But his numbers would’ve been better if not for poor quarterback play, as both Trubisky and Nick Foles have struggled finding a wide open Mooney with the deep ball throughout this season. Just imagine what Mooney could accomplish in a better offense with better quarterback play.

As the Bears prepare for a playoff game against the No. 2 New Orleans Saints next Sunday, the hope is that Mooney’s injury isn’t serious and that he will be good to go.
